Lifting Accessories, Loose Tackle, & Equipment: LOLER Inspections & Maintenance

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) which came into force on 5th December 1998 state that lifting accessories and Loose Tackle must be inspected in accordance with an examination scheme, however at least six-monthly.

Lifting accessories are pieces of equipment that are used to attach the load to lifting equipment, providing a link between the two. Examples of lifting accessories and loose tackle include:
  • Fibre or Webbing Slings
  • Wire Rope Slings
  • Chains Slings
  • Hooks
  • Shackles & Eyebolts
  • Lifting Eyes
  • Spreader Beams
  • Magnetic and Vacuum Devices
  • Lifting and Plate Clamps
After producing an appropriate examination scheme, RHC Lifting's competent engineers will thoroughly examine and inspect your lifting accessories to ensure you satisfy the regulations. The inspections will be documented on a statutory LOLER report. Your report will state all defects, observations and comments and will be supplied to you in both hard and electronic format. The reports will be followed by a quotation to rectify any defects found.

Any defects found that present an immediate danger to personnel or are likely to cause equipment failure or damage to equipment will be brought to your attention immediately so that any necessary action can be carried out quickly and efficiently.

RHC Lifting can offer a number of services to ensure your equipment stays within the LOLER regulation. We run a free plant register management system for all new equipment which is automatically marked with a unique plant number and added to the inspection reports. We can also organise a colour tagging system that ensures equipment outside the current inspection period is easily identifiable and therefore not used until it is re-inspected.
