What is a general hoist overhaul?
A general hoist overhaul should be performed on wire rope and crab hoist units before their duration of service has ended. Most manufacturers hoists have a 10-15 year working life. This working life depends on when the Safe Working Period (SWP) is reached.
What is the safe working period?
SWP is the calculation used to evaluate the working life of lifting equipment based on the weight of loads lifted, amount of lifts, hoisting height, average working time per day and hoist speed. Most modern hoists have a condition monitor unit which automatically calculates the remaining SWP. If you are unsure of the SWP of your hoist, RHC Lifting can perform an analysis to determine when the hoist will be due an overhaul. It is recommend that this analysis is completed after 10 years of service.
Completing a general overhaul when the Safe Working Period is around 10% will reduce breakdowns and ensure minimal downtime of your hoist, allowing you to plan your maintenance around your production. During the overhaul, RHC Lifting will replace key components with genuine parts and fully assess the hoist, recommending any further repairs. The hoist will be fully tested, SWP counters reset and documents produced to confirm the date of the general overhaul.
